AI MODEL AGGREGATION / SMALL-TEAM GUIDES
What is an AI model gateway?
Understand AI model aggregation, unified access and the checks a small team should make before using TokenBison.
The short answer
An AI model gateway sits between an application and model services. TokenBison provides an OpenAI-compatible entry point where your application specifies a model. A gateway can simplify integration, but a shared endpoint does not make every model interchangeable or prove automatic quality-based routing.
Gateway, model and application: three different jobs
The model generates an answer. The gateway accepts the request and directs it to a configured model service. Your application still owns the prompt, output validation and decisions about showing results to a user. When an answer fails a factual or formatting check, changing the gateway address alone is not a remedy: record the exact model and inspect the input and response contract.
When aggregation is worth evaluating
A solo developer comparing models for the same feature can keep one request interface while testing different model IDs. For a small team, begin with one server-side integration and a small public-data test set. Compare the time spent maintaining provider-specific code against the limitations introduced by another network service. If one provider already meets all requirements, a direct integration may be simpler.
A practical entry checklist
Before adopting TokenBison, check the current catalog, copy the exact model ID and run the documentation's minimal text request from your server. Then test the features your application actually needs, such as structured output or streaming, separately. Confirm how errors and usage are reported. Do not infer those capabilities from a model appearing in a list or from a single successful text response.
Evidence and boundaries
These are documentation references and proposed evaluation workflows, not measured model rankings or a guarantee of savings. Check the current catalog and policies before use.
TokenBison API documentation · reviewed 2026-09-16
The documentation implementation specifies https://tokenbison.com/v1, server-side API keys and an explicit model identifier. Optional capabilities must be verified per model; the shared interface does not establish universal feature support.
Microsoft: unified model API · reviewed 2026-09-16
Microsoft documents multiple model backends behind one client-facing API. This supports the category terminology only, not the presence of Microsoft's features in TokenBison.
Put the guide into practice
Review current model prices, then make a small API request with public or non-sensitive sample data. Compare the output against your own acceptance criteria.
